Our Story

MetaFlows was founded by researchers from SRI International, the birthplace of intrusion detection systems. While working at SRI, our founders recognized a fundamental limitation in existing security tools: they analyzed network traffic one session at a time, missing the multi-stage attack patterns that sophisticated threats use.

With funding from the National Science Foundation and the Army Research Office, we developed BotHunter—the first intrusion detection system to correlate activity across multiple sessions. This breakthrough technology could track the complete lifecycle of an attack, from initial reconnaissance through data exfiltration.

Today, MetaFlows protects organizations across government, healthcare, finance, and critical infrastructure. Our technology has evolved, but our mission remains the same: provide security teams with the intelligence they need to stop advanced threats.

Founded at SRI International
Research team identifies multi-session correlation as key to detecting advanced threats. Initial NSF and Army Research Office funding secured.
2007

Metaflows does a great job in intrusion detection and prevention, and has stopped many new infections on our network from getting outside of the network. The interface itself could use some work, as far as ease of use, but once you can get around in the system it's not bad at all and full-featured. Their support is FANTASTIC, and they will quickly answer your call (I have never had a wait time) and immediately assist you in whatever you need. They are very, very knowledgeable about their product, and will help you tune your sensors to however you see fit.
